MG Majestor vs Toyota Fortuner Comparison – Specs, Features, etc.

MG unveiled the Majestor SUV at the recently concluded Bharat Mobility Global Expo 2025, which will sit above the Gloster in the Indian portfolio.

In this post, I am comparing the newly revealed MG Majestor and Toyota Fortuner based on specifications, features, design etc. MG has been focusing on expanding its EV portfolio in India for quite some time now. However, it showcased its new ICE flagship, the Majestor, at the Bharat Mobility Global Expo 2025. While it was thought that we would witness a new Gloster, the British automaker surprised us with the Majestor. Note that it is based on the D90 Max, which is sold in Saudi Arabia. So we can get a clear idea of what it will offer. On the other hand, Toyota Fortuner is the most popular 7 seater SUV in the country. Let’s compare the two side by side to see the strengths of each.

MG Majestor vs Toyota Fortuner – Specs

Let’s start with what powers the two gigantic SUVs. While MG hasn’t officially revealed the specs, we can expect it to have the same engine and transmission options as the Gloster. Don’t forget that the Gloster is available in two levels of tuning with a 2.0-litre four-cylinder turbocharged diesel – single-turbo and twin-turbo – with 163PS / 375Nm and 218PS / 480Nm of maximum power and torque respectively. Both of these trims use an 8-speed automatic transmission. In higher variants, the SUV boasts hardcore 4×4 capabilities. In the same vein, I expect the Majestor to be offered only with a more powerful tuning of the same engine. However, we will have to wait for the official details when the car is launched.

On the other hand, the Toyota Fortuner continues to be offered with both petrol and diesel engines. This includes a 2.7-litre petrol mill that produces a modest 164bhp and 245Nm, and a 2.8-litre turbodiesel mill that churns out a massive 201bhp and 420Nm (500Nm with automatic transmission) of peak power and torque. There is a choice of either a 5-speed manual, 6-speed manual or automatic transmission. Higher diesel trims also get dedicated 4×4 hardware to ensure owners can take the SUV to almost any corner of the country. In fact, Fortuner is one of the most capable off-road machines. So both are quite close in this respect.

MG Majestor vs Toyota Fortuner – Interior, Features and Safety

This is one area where the two SUVs differ significantly. We know that MG makes some of the most functional vehicles in India. In fact, it is a pioneer when it comes to connectivity and the latest gadgets and gizmos. As this applies to every one of its models on sale, it is particularly prominent with its flagship SUV. Unfortunately, MG did not bring light to the interior of the Majestor at the auto expo. Therefore, our reference comes from an international model. His best gear will include things like:

  • 12.3-inch infotainment touchscreen
  • Digital Instrument Cluster
  • All-black interior theme
  • Panoramic sunroof
  • Heated, cooled and massaging driver’s seat
  • Powered seats
  • 3-zone automatic air conditioning
  • Wireless charging
  • Premium audio system with 12 speakers
  • Electric rear door
  • ADAS level 2
  • 360 degree camera
  • Tire pressure monitoring system
  • Electronic parking brake

On the other hand, Toyota has always been criticized for being behind the times when it comes to offering a premium cabin and the latest bells and whistles. Sure, the interior components look like they were built to last a lifetime, yet the cabin of his cars lacks the wow factor. Unfortunately, this also applies to the Fortuner. However, the main advantages are:

  • Smart Playcast Touchscreen Audio
  • Android Auto and Apple CarPlay
  • Power steering with paddle shift
  • Front clearance sonar with MID indication
  • Driving modes – Eco, Normal and Sport
  • JBL Premium sound system with 11 speakers and subwoofer
  • Black interior
  • Wooden inserts inside the cabin
  • Ventilated seats
  • Cool blue Combimeter motif with silver ornament
  • Connected Car Tech
  • Real-time vehicle tracking
  • Geo-fencing
  • Electronically controlled tailgate with memory and jam protection
  • 7 airbags
  • ABS, EBD, BA
  • Vehicle stability control
  • Anti-theft alarm with ultrasonic sensor and glass break sensor
  • ISOFIX child seat
  • Active traction control
  • Automatic limited slip differential
  • Hill Assist Control
  • Controlling the descent assistant
  • Electronic differential lock
  • Wireless charging
  • Digital video recorder

Design and dimensions

This is another key aspect that will attract many buyers. With large SUVs, people want their vehicles to look imposing on the road. Honestly, both of these SUVs will have their strengths. The new MG Majestor has a strong presence, especially at the front. This includes sleek LED DRLs on the outer edges with a thin strip connecting them and a colossal rectangular grille with a chunky skid plate towards the bottom end. The main headlight is impressively stacked on the outer edges of the bumper vertically, while the lower part has robust elements. On the sides, we can see black side pillars, artificial roof rails, massive alloy wheels, massive wheel arches with matte black materials and healthy side steps to improve entry and exit characteristics. Finally, the rear includes a massive connected LED taillight panel that stretches across the width of the SUV, a sporty bumper, a roof spoiler, dual exhaust pipes and a solid part of the guard. All in all, the SUV definitely turns heads.

On the other hand, the Toyota Fortuner also has an imposing presence on the road. The front fascia features narrow LED headlamps with integrated LED DRLs with chrome bezels along with a massive grille in the middle. Below we see colossal fog lamp covers on the edges of the bumper and a robust skid plate that protects the components on roads off the asphalt. The side part includes black side pillars, chrome strip under the window frames, roof rails, solid wheel arches with solid cladding, elegant 18-inch alloy wheels and durable side steps for passenger comfort. At the rear, we witness a roof spoiler, a shark fin antenna, thin rear LED headlights connected by a chrome panel and a robust bumper. Both these SUVs have their distinct identities.

Price comparison

We do not yet know the prices of the MG Majestor. Still, for reference, the Gloster retails between Rs 39.57 lakh and Rs 44.74 lakh, ex-showroom. It is clear that the Majestor will be placed above Gloster. Hence, you can expect prices between Rs 45 lakh and Rs 55 lakh, ex-showroom. On the other hand, the Toyota Fortuner carries a price tag of Rs 33.43 lakh to Rs 51.94 lakh, ex-showroom. Note that since the Fortuner is offered in petrol trim, the starting prices are low.

Price (ex-sh.) MG Majestor (exp.) Toyota Fortuner
Basic model 45 crores of Rs 33.43 crores of Rs
Top Model 55 crores of Rs 51.94 crores of Rs

MyView

Choosing between these two compelling propositions can be quite difficult. This is especially true as most details regarding the MG Majestor are still scarce. Once they are available, we will be able to make a much more informed decision. Still, it basically boils down to your personal preference. If you want a reliable workhorse and can do without the latest gadgets and gizmos, the Fortuner makes more sense. However, if you want absolutely modern equipment in the cabin, the Majestor should be your choice. Either way, you can’t go wrong with either one.
